OTTAWA, ILL - Charlene M. Wilkins, age 71, of Ottawa, Ill. passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Heritage Manor of LaSalle, Ill.
Charlene was born Feb. 27, 1946 in Cresco, Iowa, the twin daughter of Charles and Ferneva (Weinkauf) Nast. She married Wayne Wilkins on Nov. 2, 1968 in Granger, Minn. He passed away Nov. 20, 2015.
Charlene was baptized Feb. 27, 1946 and confirmed April 10, 1960. She attended Nichols Country School through eighth grade and attended Crestwood High School, graduating with the class of 1964. She graduated from UNI in 1968 and was employed by the Office of the State Appellate Defender in Ottawa, Ill, retiring in 2002.
Charlene was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where she worked with the Stewardship Group sewing quilts and serving on the funeral committee. In retirement she also volunteered at St. Elizabeth Hospital and worked with the Project Santa group in LaSalle, which sewed and filled Christmas stockings for soldiers. Playing cards and traveling were also her favorite pastimes.
Charlene is survived by her son, Lee Wilkins of Sandwich, Ill.; her twin sister, Sharla (Vic) Fencl of Protivin, Iowa; a niece, Sarah (Greg) Cieciek; and a nephew, Tim (Kecia) Fencl.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Wilkins, and her parents, Charlie and Ferneva Nast.
