Duane Henry, 80

Decorah -  Duane Henry, age 80, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at Good Samaritan Center in West Union, Iowa. 

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Decorah. Burial will be in St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery, Bluffton, Iowa, at a later date.  No formal service will be held. 

Duane James Henry was born on Sept. 24, 1936, the son of James and Dorothy (McCauley) Henry in Decorah. He graduated from Canton High School in 1954 and attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa for one year and Mankato State in Mankato, Minn. for a short time. He traveled out west with friends to work on dams. He then returned and was married to Lois Gossman on July 7, 1959, at St. Agnes-Plymouth Rock Catholic Church and they later divorced. 

Duane farmed his farm as well as working construction with Jennerjohn-Holthaus and Carlson’s over the years. His health started to fail in January 2007, and he entered Good Samaritan Home in West Union in the fall of 2015. Duane enjoyed bowling and pool league, fishing, hunting and reading. He was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton. 

Duane is survived by his four children, Daniel (Becky) Henry of LaCrosse, Wis., Angela (special friend, Rob Anderson) Henry of Ridgeway, Iowa, David (Barb) Henry of Highlandville, Iowa and Julie (Dave) Brenno of Cresco, Iowa; two grandchildren, Logan and Christopher Brenno; one brother, Jerome Henry of Decorah; one sister-in-law, Patricia Henry of Cresco; one niece, Susan (David) Hall; and two nephews, Jim (Rhonda) Henry and Johnny (Lisa) Henry. 

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy (McCauley) Henry, and two brothers, Earl Henry and Eldon Henry in infancy.
