SAINT PAUL - Eugene W. Hoppe, age 79, of Saint Paul, Minn. passed away on Wednesday evening, Oct. 16, 2019 at Regions Hospital in Saint Paul.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, Iowa followed by burial in New Oregon Cemetery, rural Cresco. Friends may call on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. Lindstrom Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Eugene William Hoppe was born on May 21, 1940 to Kermit and Ellen (Halweg) Hoppe. He attended schools in Cresco. He worked for the railroad in Saint Paul until he retired in 2000. Eugene married Linda (Tompkins) Williams on July 24, 1978 in Cresco. He enjoyed going to the casino to play bingo and black jack.
Eugene is survived by his children, Susan (John) Ryan of Cresco, Patrick Hoppe of Decorah, Iowa, Dennis Tompkins of Saint Paul, Heather Podgorski of Saint Paul and Christopher Williams (Elizabeth Porter) of Saint Paul; grandchildren, Trisha Ryan (Brad Darling), Travis (Abby) Ryan, Caitlyn Hoppe (Alan Oesterle), Blake Hoppe, Brittany Podgorski, Christina Podgorski, Hailey Porter and Jeffrey Williams; great-grandchildren, Tylar and Hayden Wenthold, Bradan and Brody Darling, Will and Cole Ryan and Kyliena and Karson Oesterle; a sister, LaVonne (Ken) Fishell of Cumming, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Joan Hoppe of Cresco; brothers-in-law, Roger Wentworth of Cresco and Wayne Roberts of Decorah; and several nieces and nephews.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda in 2016; two sons, David and Jeffrey Hoppe; four siblings, Lorrine Wentworth, Earl Hoppe, LaVene Roberts and Rita Hoppe; and a nephew, James Wentworth.
