Protivin - Evelyn D. Kostohryz, age 94, of Protivin, Iowa passed away on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at Hawkeye Care Center in Cresco, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, with Father Kyle Digmann presiding. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Protivin. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Protivin with a Rosary service at 4:45 p.m. and a scripture service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
Evelyn Dorothy Mracek, daughter of Frank J. and Regina M. (Riha), was born Nov. 16, 1922, on a farm near Protivin. She attended rural country school. On April 30, 1946, Evelyn married Raymond J. Kostohryz at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. They enjoyed many years of farming together.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and canning. Evelyn was an excellent baker, especially kolaches and homemade bread. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed playing games and cards with them. She also liked making them cookies and treats.
She is survived by her children, David (Carol) Kostohryz, Janet (Jim) Shelton and Karen (Gene) Koschmeder, all of Cresco; grandchildren, Donald (Tina) Vrba Jr. of Dixon, Mo., Debra (Chris) Ruff of Marion, Iowa, Dean (Molly) Vrba of Mount Auburn, Iowa, Deanna (Jason) Dickinson of Cassville, Mo., Daniel (Rachel) Vrba of Cresco, Carrie (Matt) Meyer of Soland, Iowa, Michael (Melissa) Shelton of Cresco, Jennifer (Alex) Clement of Stewartville, Minn., Angela (Bill) Beck of Denver, Iowa and Jason (Heather) Koschmeder of Albuquerque, N.M.; great-grandchildren Meghan (Nick), Jordan, Isaac, Ian, Bradan, Drew, Mason, Lexus, Alayna, Carmen, Raymond, Chloe, Taylor, Hannah, Dylan, Mea, Zoey, Maximus, Tyler (Rain), Colin and Grace; great-great-grandchildren, Remington, Carson and Jackson; sister-in-law, Alice Puffer of Ridgeway, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Darlene; husband, Raymond in 1986; granddaughter, Amy; and her brother, Daniel (Darlene) Mracek.
