Janet Entwisle, 77

HAWKEYE - Janet Lorraine Entwisle, age 77, of rural Hawkeye, Iowa passed away on Dec. 19, 2019 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union, Iowa. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020 at the United Methodist Church in West Union.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be used in her honor.

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Union is helping the family with arrangements.

Janet was born at home in rural West Union on Feb. 22, 1942, to Loyd and Violet (Walker) Entwisle. She attended elementary schools in Clayton and Fayette counties and graduated from North High High School in 1960. She then attended Young School of Beauty in Waterloo, Iowa. She was a cosmetologist in Cresco for 52 years. 

Janet was a member of the United Methodist Church in West Union since 1954. Her hobbies included riding horses, softball and bowling. She collected commemorative plates from places she visited and from friends and family. She enjoyed taking many of her nieces on vacation trips. One of the favorite memories of some of the great-nieces and nephews was the New Year’s Party with a sleepover. 

For many years, Janet made Christmas ornaments for family members, only missing one year in the 40-plus in which she made them. She was a great motivator in the family to get things done and always was first in line to help a family member. Nieces and nephews found great joy in looking for the “man under her bed,” who she always said was there in a joking manner. 

Janet requested there will be no male pall bearers for her funeral, because she always stated, “if they couldn’t take her out when she was alive, they sure weren’t taking her out when she died.” 

She is survived by Merilee (Arnold) Kleppe, Jim Entwisle, Peggy (Daniel) Kurt, Diane (Myron) Nagel, Dennis (Christine) Entwisle, Julie (David) Zentz, Mark Entwisle and brother-in-law, Roger (Jessie) Weltzin, along with many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Violet (Walker) Entwisle; sisters, Linda Weltzin, Nancy Nagel and Sherry Entwisle; and two nephews and two nieces.
