RIDGEWAY - Julie Mae Dawley, age 65 of Ridgeway, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa surrounded by her family.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 at Burr Oak (Iowa) Lutheran Church, with Pastor Wayne Ellingson officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020 at the church and again one hour prior to services on Saturday. Lindstrom Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Julie Mae was born on Dec. 26, 1954 to Dale (Bud) and Edith (Dotzler) Lepa in Cresco, Iowa. She graduated from Crestwood High School in 1973 and then went on to work at Donaldson Company in Cresco. She dedicated 44 years of her life to Donaldson Company, making many dear friends. On July 26, 1975 she was united in marriage to Steve Dawley at Assembly of God Church in Cresco, and to this union they were blessed with two children and six grandchildren.
Julie’s world revolved around her family, including her dog Tucker Jo. She was an avid horseback rider and she loved spending time at horse camp with her extended family and friends. She was blessed with a green thumb and looked forward to her flowers blooming each year.
Alongside her mother and her grandmother, Pearl Lepa, Julie learned her excellent cooking skills. She was well-known for her baked beans and homemade pizza. During football season, her Sunday afternoons were reserved for cheering on her favorite football team, most recently the Kansas City Chiefs.
Julie is survived by her husband, Steve of Ridgeway; two children, Shannon (Reid) Wurtzel and Shawn (Kelli Hovey) Dawley; six grandchildren: Bristol, Rylan, Beckett, Hartley and Brantley Wurtzel and Brekk Hovey; her mother, Edith Lepa; three brothers, Daryl (Kathy), Randy (Sheila) and Dean (Lori); and one sister, Jan; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Ruthie Brownfield, Mary Dawley, Ron (Bev) Dawley, Martha Dawley, Becky (Steve) Newman, Mark (Edith) Dawley, Dan Dawley, Mike Dawley, Jeff (Gwen) Dawley and John (Arla) Dawley; along with many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Julie was preceded in death by her father, Bud Lepa; grandparents, Edward and Mae Agnes Dotzler and Jim and Pearl Lepa; sister, Deb; father and mother-in-law, Roscoe and Ellen Dawley; brothers-in-law Lester Dawley and Jim Dawley; and sisters-in-law Jill Dawley and Gloria Dawley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Winneshiek Medical Center, Home Health and Hospice, 901 Montgomery St., Decorah, IA 52101.
