New Prague - Kareen Alice Jacobson, age 76, of New Prague, Minn. passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Physicians Regional Medical Center in Naples, Fla. with her husband by her side.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Prague. Visitation will take place from 9:30-11:30 a.m., prior to the service, a luncheon will follow.
Kareen was born on June 28, 1942 in Cresco, Iowa to Alice and Louie Peter. She graduated from Cresco High School and achieved her LPN degree through St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Upon graduation, she worked in the open heart intensive care unit and loved her cardiac patients.
She married the love of her life, Arvin “Jake” Jacobson on July 21, 1963. They made several moves for his banking career, from Minnesota to Illinois and back to Minnesota. Kareen worked in the Hinckley, Ill. School District as a learning disability aide. She spent 25 years as a Hospice volunteer, recruiting, training and coordinating the volunteers.
Kareen was truly a compassionate caregiver to her family, friends and patients. She loved boating, fishing, golfing, playing cards, water skiing and beach walks on Marco Island. She valiantly, with grace and bravery, fought Parkinson’s disease and inspired all with her inner strength and faith. She gave it her all and was a beloved wife, mom and grandmother — the ultimate steel magnolia.
Kareen is survived by her loving husband, Jake; children, Kim (Greg) Sather and Jeff (Wendy) Jacobson of New Prague; and grandchildren, Luke and Faith.
