Minnetonka, Minn. -  Laverne Drilling, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Minnetonka, Minn. on Nov. 24, 2016.
The family thinks he did it to escape the effects of the presidential election . . . or irrational fears of turkeys (although not proven).  
A gathering to celebrate Vern's life will  be held at McAllister Catering & Heritage Events Center in Cresco, Iowa on Friday, April 28 from 4-9 p.m.  A visitation  will be held at Notre Dame Parish in Cresco, on Saturday, April 29 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. 
Born July 1, 1937 in Cresco, Iowa, Vern had a life-long passion of making the lives of those around him better.  His witty and kind heart will be missed. 
Vern, or “Ferd” as he preferred to be called, was a psychologist, who touched many lives, helping individuals deal with their drug and alcohol problems, and so much more.  
He was an author who changed many lives of people struggling with addictions or questioning retirement.  
He was preceded in death by wife, Madelyn (nee Henry) Drilling; parents, Ferd and Leona (nee Herold) Drilling; siblings, Gene Drilling, Al (Delores) Drilling, Dorothy Drilling and Eileen (Judy Rothfork) Drilling; and in-law, Mike O’Hearn.  
He is survived by son, John Drilling; siblings, Loraine ‘'Hearn and Robert (Dorothy) Drilling; sister-in-law, Rita Drilling; and many nieces and nephews.
