CRESCO - Lorrine Wentworth, age 79, of Cresco, Iowa died Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in La Crosse, Wis.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, followed by burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cresco. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco and at the church for an hour prior to services.
Lorrine was born Aug. 3, 1937 in Orleans Township of Winneshiek County, Iowa to Kermit and Ellen (Halweg) Hoppe. She graduated from Cresco High School in 1955. After graduation, she worked in Des Moines at a state office. After moving back to Cresco in 1956, she worked as a bookkeeper for Bastian Welding and Machine, Don Gooder Distributing and later for Alum-Line.
Lorrine married Roger Wentworth on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 1958 in Spring Valley, Minn. She enjoyed camping, fishing and golfing and was always busy sewing and making quilts. She really enjoyed golfing on different courses in Texas, while visiting the boys. She was very active in Immanuel Lutheran Church, working on many of the church boards and women’s groups. She took care of the kitchen as if it were her own. She enjoyed making quilts with the women for Lutheran World Relief. She was very proud to have served on the committee of the fall dinner for all 24 years it was held.
Lorrine is survived by her husband, Roger of Cresco; a son, Allan (Norma) Wentworth of Pecos, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Janice Wentworth of Russell, Kan.; one granddaughter, Sarah Wentworth; four step-grandchildren, Samantha Rodriguez, Samuel Rodriguez, Jessica Bierberle and Katya Nuss; one great-granddaughter, Chevelle Gonzales; two siblings, Gene Hoppe of South St. Paul, Minn. and LaVonne (Ken) Fishell of Cumming, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Joan Hoppe of Cresco; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Roberts of Decorah, Iowa.
Lorrine was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Wentworth; three siblings, Earl Hoppe, LaVene Roberts and Rita Hoppe; and a sister-in-law, Linda Hoppe.
