Cresco - Mandius “Sonny” Christianson, age 86, of Cresco, Iowa died on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018 at 11 a.m., with Father Dennis Cain officiating. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date. 

Mandius M. Christianson was born in rural Howard County, Iowa on April 25, 1932, the son of Mandius and Clara (Meyerhoff) Christianson. 

He married Anna Mae Skoda on July 18, 1955 at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco. Sonny worked at Donaldson’s for over 20 years before his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, gambling, fishing and especially loved playing cards.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Anna Mae; sons, Doug (Gwen) Christianson of Cresco, Craig (Gloria) Christianson of Clovis, Calif., Dennis (Robin Emerson) Christianson of Cresco and Cory (Becky Lepa) Christianson of Cresco; brothers, Delmer Christianson of Charles City, Iowa, Charles Christianson of Cresco and Larry (Marlene) Christianson of West Memphis, Ark.; sisters, Esther (Dean) Childs of Redwood Falls, Minn., Alberta Christensen of Rochester, Minn. and Rebecca (Don) Smith of Mason City, Iowa; grandchildren, Scott Christianson of Hudson, Iowa, Angie (Jason) Fenske of Chanhassen, Minn., Alex Christianson of Cresco, Ashlyn (John) Elsner of Eagan, Minn. and Kayla (Eric Pride) Christianson of Alta Vista, Iowa; four great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Kyle Christianson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to Sonny’s family.
