Ossian -  Margaret Halse, age 59, of Ossian, Iowa, died Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse, Wis.

A funeral service was held April 8, 2017 at First Lutheran Church, Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Chad Huebner officiating.

Margaret Jean (Dotzler) Halse was born on May 23, 1957, the daughter of Edward and Helen (Hovey) Dotzler in Preston, Minn. She was baptized and confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church and graduated from Decorah High School in 1976. 

She was united in marriage to Gerald Halse on Dec. 31, 1977, and to this union two children were born, Jennifer Margaret and John Gerald. They later divorced. 

Margaret worked at DECO Products as a supervisor and then as a welder at Featherlite Trailers in Cresco, Iowa. She enjoyed country music, dancing, being outside, gardening, bird watching, going to the races, baking, cooking, playing board and card games with her grandchildren, watching movies and providing for others. Above everything else, she loved her grandchildren and doing things with them and for them. Margaret was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Decorah.

Margaret’s survivors include her significant other, Nick Schissel of Ossian; daughter, Jennifer (Steven) Henry of Decorah; son, John (Krystal Osborn) Halse of Decorah; two grandchildren, Kollin and Garrett Henry; Nick’s children, Chad (Renee Gunderson) Schissel of Calmar, Iowa, Travis (Alissa Schmitt) Schissel of Decorah and Lee (Jill Kruse) Schissel of Colorado Springs, Colo; Nick’s two grandchildren, Laylah and Vienna Schissel; her siblings, Edward A. (Sandra) Dotzler of Belvidere, Ill., Donna Vick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Marilyn (Curt) Peterson of Decorah, Charlotte (Ken) Buckingham of Four Seasons, Mo., Jerry (Jean) Dotzler of Mason City, Iowa, Wayne Dotzler of Hazleton, Iowa, Rodney (Jane) Dotzler of Ridgeway, Iowa, Roger Dotzler of Rockford, Ill., Larry (Lola) Dotzler of Twin Falls, Idaho, Gary (Sue Russell) Dotzler of Roscoe, Ill., Dennis (Jen Peterson) Dotzler of Decorah, Barb (Bob) Bigler of Ridgeway, Sharon (Kevin) Weselmann of Decorah and Karen (Kevin) Latwesen, Michelle (Lee) Panoch and Mike (Naycia) Dotzler, all of Cresco; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and Nick’s siblings, Anna Mae (Gary) Remmen and Carol (Rick) Cameron of Calmar, Iowa.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Helen (Hovey) Dotzler; brother, Donald Dotzler; sister-in-law, Dianne Dotzler; and brother-in-law, Rod Vick.
