Elma -  Maxine Friedrich, age 84, of Elma, Iowa, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, Oct. 19, 2015 at Howard Country Regional Hospital in Cresco, Iowa.

Funeral services for Maxine will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at St. Paul’s Maple Leaf Lutheran Church in Elma, with Pastor Dan Christensen officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.

Friends may greet the family from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Maxine Clarabelle (Laue) Friedrich was born on March 19, 1931, the eldest of nine children, to Herman and Clara (Stevenson) Laue of Davis Corners, Iowa. She was confirmed at St. Paul’s Maple Leaf Lutheran Church and later married Loyd Friedrich at the same church on Aug. 25, 1949. To this union five children were born, Larry, JoAnn, Debra, Lonnie (deceased) and Rodney.

Maxine graduated from Elma Public School and was a star basketball player for the Elma Eaglets.

Maxine and Loyd dedicated their entire lives to farming and raising their children on the Friedrich family farm, four miles north of Elma. Maxine was an active member of the WELCA and the Coffee and Thimble Club. She taught Sunday School for many years, as well as sang in the church choir.

Maxine traveled a great deal later in life, visiting relatives with her sisters, Alice and Annie. She also went on many bus tours throughout the country. For the past four years, she was able to spend part of the winter with her daughter, JoAnn in Texas. Maxine enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, playing cards and spending time with grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. After Loyd passed away, she worked with Whitingers at Whitco and later worked 20 years as a dental assistant for Dr. Ernst.

Maxine is survived by her children, Larry (Jeanne) Friedrich of Elma; JoAnn (Greg) Chambers of Crawley, Texas, Debra (Roger) Schroeder and daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Friedrich, both of Elma and Rodney (Toni) Friedrich of Alta Vista, Iowa; sisters, Alice Schroeder, Annie Wolfgram and Sharon Zajic; brothers, Dale Laue and Gary Laue; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Clara Laue; her husband, Loyd Friedrich; sisters, Linda Fogarty and Donna Fredericksen; brother, Bill Laue; son, Lonnie Friedrich; son-in-law, Pat Fair; and granddaughter, Leah Friedrich.
