Elma - Melony S. Smith, age 53 of Elma, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse, Wis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes, Iowa with Fr. Mark Murphy celebrating. Burial will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma, with a 2:30 p.m. Rosary. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral mass on Wednesday. Online condolences for Melony’s family may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. Melony Sue was born May 19, 1963 to Dennis and Wanda (DeVries) Meyer in Charles City, Iowa. She attended and graduated from New Hampton (Iowa) High School. Upon graduating, Melony began to work at the Alibi in Elma and then at Sara Lee in New Hampton. She was united in marriage to Michael J. Smith on July 19, 1987. The couple made their home near Lourdes, where they farmed together and welcomed five children, Lee, Josh, Mandy, Mitchel and Jamie.
Melony enjoyed horses, photography, her chihuahuas and traveling. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Left to honor Melony’s memories are her parents, Dennis and Wanda Meyer of Elma; children, Lee (Christina) Smith of Marion, Iowa, Josh (Andrea) Smith of Elma, Mandy (Matthew) Kellogg of New Hampton, Mitchel Smith of Lourdes and Jamie Smith of Lawler, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Kaden, Rylan, Hannah, Ava, Kiera, Gavin and Logan; her brother, Monty (Deb) Meyer of Kasson, Minn.; her parents-in-law, Joe (Jeanne) Smith of Lourdes; her sisters-in-law, Sheila (Chad) Kruger of Independence, Iowa and Sandy (Dave) Hein of Tipton, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Robbie Smith of New Hampton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael in 2005; her granddaughter, Kadyn Jade; and her brother-in-law, Jimmy Smith.
