RICEVILLE - Ronald R. Duryee, age 82, of Riceville, Iowa died on April 23, 2019 at Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center. 

A funeral service will be held at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Riceville on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 11a.m. Inurnment with military honors will be at Wayne Cemetery near McIntire.

Ronald was born on Oct. 28, 1936, the son of Pearl (Backus) and Gernard Duryee, in LeRoy, Minn. He attended McIntire (Iowa) Schools. He earned his GED in the Navy in which he enlisted in 1956. He married Marilyn Klatt at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, Iowa. The couple lived in San Diego, Calif. He served for four years in the Navy and received an honorable discharge as Engineman 3rd Class Petty Officer in 1960.

They moved to Iowa, where he was a depot agent for the Chicago Great Western Railroad for eight years. They started taking out depots; seniority was first. He then worked for Meinerz/Beatrice Creamery in Fredericksburg, Iowa. He moved to Riceville in 1998 and retired November 1999, having worked for 31 years. He enjoyed flying battery-operated airplanes, fishing, gardening and visiting family.  

He is survived by his children, Kenneth of Roy, Utah, Steven of Ogden, Utah, Robert of Iowa City, Iowa and Randal of Plainfield, Iowa; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brothers, Wayne of Osage, Iowa and Leonard of Leland, Iowa; sisters, Diane Semerad of Cresco, Barbara Woolworth of Cresco, Donna Wilson of Rochester, Minn. and Cherie Landers of Greene, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Katherine in infancy; brothers, Marvin, Verne, Darrell, Gordon and James; and a nephew, Richard Hahn, Jr.
