Alex Kerian advances to district golf meet

CRESCO - Playing in a triangular meet on Monday, May 8 at home against Decorah and New Hampton, the Crestwood boys’ golf team placed third overall with a score of 179.
New Hampton won the varsity meet with a round of 159 and Decorah was second at 171.
Cadet varsity scores included: Alex Kerian 41 (runner-up), Isaiah Passmore 43, Colten Wiley 47, Justin Reinking 48.
In the Junior Varsity meet, New Hampton took first at 179, Decorah was second at 197 and Crestwood took third at 216.
Crestwood Junior Varsity scores included: Harry Kitchen 49, Kristian Szajna 53, Zeke Church 54, Dakota Casper 60.
“This was not the best day for our team,” Cadet Coach Lynn McCormick said. “Alex did tie for runner-up medalist. Carter Stochl from New Hampton shot a great score of 34 to earn medalist honors.
“We need to get some practice in before tournaments to hopefully lower our scores. We have a great opportunity in sectionals if we can shoot a little better,” Coach Lynn McCormick said.
Sectional meet
The Crestwood boys’ golf team narrowly missed advancing to districts as the Cadets placed third at the sectional meet Friday in Decorah with a score of 358. Cadet senior Alex Kerian finished in the top 15 with an 18-hole round of 86 to advance to the district meet on May 19.
West Delaware took first at 329 and Charles City was second at 354 as both squads advanced. The rest of the standings included: 3. Crestwood 358; 4. Decorah 360; 5. Waverly-SR 370; 6. Union 374; 7. Independence 379; 8. Oelwein 412.
Cadet scores included: Alex Kerian 86, Justin Reinking 88, Harry Kitchen 88, Isaiah Passmore 97, Kristian Szajna 100, Colten Wiley 106.
“It was a good day for our team, but at the same time disappointing as we missed advancing to the district tournament by four strokes as the top two teams advance,” Coach McCormick said.
“However, Alex Kerian did advance to the districts as an individual and will play next Friday at Manchester. I am very happy and proud of him and am sure he will represent himself very well."
