Cadet girls' basketball team wins State Championship!

DES MOINES - Make some extra room in the trophy case at Crestwood High School because the Cadet girls' basketball team is bringing home a BIG State Championship trophy!

Facing No. 2 Sioux Center in the Class 3A State Girls' Basketball Tournament championship game Saturday, the No. 1 Cadets (26-0) trounced the Warriors (24-3), 73-48, to win the State title, which is Crestwood's first State championship in girls' basketball. Sioux Center cut Crestwood's lead to 47-35 midway through the third period before the Cadets pushed the lead to 61-38 at the end of the third. The Warriors never got closer than 20 points in the final period as Crestwood sailed to the victory.

Three Crestwood players were named to the State All-Tournament team including: Shannon Pisney, Sharon Goodman and Ellie Friesen, who was also named the All-Tournament captain.

Brynn Bodermann led the Cadets with 26 points, including six three-pointers. Sharon Goodman had 20 points and four blocks, and Shannon Pisney tallied 16 points and nine rebounds. Ellie Friesen had nine points and nine assists.
