Cadet wrestlers rout Waukon, win two duals at Battle of Waterloo

CRESCO - It was a dominating performance by the Crestwood wrestling team on Dec. 14 at home against Waukon as the Cadets crushed the Indians, 71-8.

Crestwood won 12 of 14 matches against the Indians and posted seven pins. Cadets who won by fall included: Stone Peckham (220), Nathaniel Bigalk (106), Kaden Anderlik (120), Hunter Fousek (126), Carlos Beascochea (132), Colter Bye (160) and Trey Burnikel (170). In the JV matches, Kole Menne won a decision at 170, and Brendon Dixon competed at 138.

Wrestling at the Battle of Waterloo on Friday and Saturday, the Cadets competed hard as they won two matches and lost four to place 12th out of 32 schools.

Waukon dual

Crestwood Head Coach Keith Slifka was excited to see the Cadets record a 71-8 dual win over Waukon Thursday at home.

“I was very, very happy with the way our guys wrestled against Waukon,” Slifka said. “All of our guys competed well, and it was nice to see us win some of the toss-up matches. Everyone on the team showed good excitement.”

 Battle of Waterloo

The Cadets competed at the Battle of Waterloo Friday and Saturday in Waterloo. On Friday, Crestwood won two of three duals as they beat Cedar Falls (44-18), downed Nashua-Plainfield (60-18) and lost to West Delaware (30-43).

On Saturday, the Cadets lost to Waverly-SR (30-31), fell to Lake Mills (30-43) and lost to Iowa City City High (27-45) to place 12th overall.

“On the first day, we won two of three duals to take third for the day,” Slifka said. “The second day was a tough one for us. We competed well against Waverly and lost by only one point. You could see that our younger kids were starting to get fatigued. All-in-all, we wrestled well at Waterloo, but there are still a few things we need to clean up a little bit.”
