Cadets, Trojans earn All-State Basketball Honors

 

CRESCO - Two Crestwood girls and two Turkey Valley girls recently earned Iowa Newspaper Association All-State Basketball honors for the 2016-17 season.
Crestwood junior Ellie Friesen was named Class 3A First Team All-State while teammate junior Shannon Pisney was named Third Team All-State.
Turkey Valley senior Shelby Reicks nabbed Class 1A First Team All-State honors for the second straight year. Senior Morgen Kuennen earned Second Team honors. Both Reicks and Kuennen were also named to the Northeast All-District team by the Iowa Girls’ Basketball Coaches Association. Reicks also earned Academic All-State honors for the season.
Through 23 games this season, Shannon Pisney led the Cadets with 414 total points scored for an average of 18.0 points per game, tallied 216 rebounds (9.4 per game), had 58 steals and eight blocks. Ellie Friesen posted 377 points (16.4 ppg), led the team with 124 assists, had 100 rebounds and 66 steals.
Shelby Reicks led TV with 329 points scored (14.3 ppg), had 83 rebounds, led the team with 132 assists, 134 steals and had 20 blocks. Morgen Kuennen tallied 264 points (11.5 ppg), led the Trojans with 117 rebounds, had 44 assists, 54 steals and led the team with 21 blocks.
The Cadets finished the season with an overall record of 22-2 and qualified for the Class 3A State Tournament. Crestwood lost to Cherokee in the first round at the State Tournament.
The Trojans concluded the year at 23-3 and placed second at the Class 1A State Tournament. Turkey Valley defeated Janesville in round one at State, beat Exira-EHK in the semifinals and the Trojans lost to Springville in the title game.
