Crestwood girls’ track team performs well at Decorah meet

DECORAH - Competing in its second indoor meet of the season, the Crestwood girls’ track team performed well at the Decorah Invitational held at Luther College on Saturday, March 17. No team scores were recorded.

Cadet senior Ellie Friesen nabbed first place in the 800 meters in a time of 2:14.91 seconds, which broke her own school record in the event. Friesen’s time was fast enough to qualify her for the Drake Relays in Des Moines from April 25-28. Running at the Iowa State meet on March 12, Friesen qualified for the Drake Relays in the 1500 and 3000 meters.

Crestwood’s ‘A’ 4x400 relay team of Ellie Friesen, Emily Friesen, Annie Mast and Brynn Bodermann captured first in a time of 4:21.94.

Katie Saner was second in the long jump at 15 feet, 4.5 inches, second in the 55 dash in 7.64, fourth in the 200 dash in 27.92 and she helped the 4x200 ‘A’ team nab second in 1:54.56. Members of the 4x200 team included: Saner, Mast, Keelee Andera and Bodermann.

Kristen Reicks took second in the shot put at 33 feet, 3.5 inches. The 4x800 ‘A’ team of Emily Friesen, Cassidy Ihns, Rachel Steffen and Sarah Mashek placed second in 10:43.77.

“Across the board, the girls competed very well against some quality competition,” Cadet Coach Jim Obermann said. “Ellie had a good day as she broke her own record in the 800, and she helped the 4x400 team place first.

“All four of our shot put throwers (Kristen Reicks, Cameron Ollendick, Hallie Frohn and Amiah DeWolf) did a great job. Cameron and Amiah both had personal records. Sharon Goodman jumped well, and she tied her personal record (4 feet, 10 inches). In the long jump, Keelee Andera and Lexi Hoppe both had personal records. It was good to see our depth in the field events.

“Our 4x400 team of Ellie Friesen, Emily Friesen, Annie Mast and Brynn Bodermann all ran great to take first. Mattie Slavin, Annie Mast, Keelee Andera, Sarah Mashek, Brynn Bodermann and Katie Saner all ran well. Katie did a good job placing second in the 55 dash and the long jump. All of our girls showed a lot of promise at the meet, and I thought they all took a good step forward,” Obermann said.

The Cadet girls’ team is scheduled to compete at North Fayette Valley on March 29 and at Postville on April 3.
