Crestwood girls perform well at ISU, Wartburg indoor meets

AMES - The Crestwood girls’ track team finished in the top 10 in four events at the Iowa State High School Girls’ Classic Meet held on March 18 in Ames. No team scores were recorded.
Cassidy Ihns nabbed third place in the 1500 meters in a time of 5:02.69 seconds. Katie Saner finished sixth in the 60 meter dash in 8.30 seconds, and Kristen Reicks placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 11 inches. Crestwood’s 4x800 meter relay team placed 14th in 10:49.33.
“It was another excellent opportunity for us to get some of our girls on a great track,” Cadet Coach Jim Obermann said. “ISU is a 300 meters indoor track, and we were able to run a few more events we had not been able to yet.  We also saw new competition and we gained some more valuable experience.
“Katie Saner had a really nice day as she placed sixth in the 55 meters and anchored two relays for us that did well.  Katie anchored our sprint medley, which finished strong in eighth place.
“Our middle distance and distance girls again shined. Cassidy Ihns ran a very strong 1500 meters, placing third and our 4x800 team continues to bring their time down. All four girls ran well in this race. Kristen Reicks is becoming very consistent and had another strong outing in the shot put as she again hit 35 feet, 11 inches. As always, our girls competed well and supported each other very well,” Obermann said.

NEIC at Wartburg
WAVERLY - Competing in their fourth indoor meet of the season, the Cadet girls placed in the top three in eight events at the NEIC Meet at Wartburg on March 19. There were no team scores.
“Since we had run several of our girls at Iowa State on Monday (March 18), we didn’t run some of them as much (at Waverly),” Obermann said. “It gave us an opportunity to get some more girls some opportunities.
“I thought we competed well, except those that had been at Iowa State the night before looked a bit tired.  Regardless, we had several nice performances.
“Katie Saner had another quality night as she was second in the 55 meters and won the long jump.  Cassidy Ihns ran another solid 3000 meters. Hope Dohlman ran a gutsy race in the 1500 meters to place second.
“I was very pleased with the girls that ran in our 4x800 relay.  They showed us that we have some depth in our middle distance people.  Our throwers were again very strong with Kristen Reicks winning the shot and Cameron Ollendick placing third. Our hurdlers performed well, lead by Lexi Hoppe and her second place finish.  Our 4x200 and Distance Medley also had a solid night,” Obermann said.
