Crestwood girls' track team wins home co-ed meet, boys place third

CRESCO - The Crestwood girls’ and boys’ track teams both flexed their muscles during their home co-ed meet on April 27 as the girls’ squad captured first place with 164 points while the boys’ group finished third overall with 95 points. Waukon took the boys’ team title with 146 points.
In the girls’ meet, Cadet Charley Curtis won gold in the 100 dash in 13.37 seconds and teammate Aubrey Mannery grabbed silver in 13.42. In the 200, Lily Troendle took gold in 27.22 while Curtis placed second in 27.25. Troendle also took first in the 400 dash in 1:03.55.
Kinze Shea placed second in the 3000 meters in 11:10.08 and was third in the 1500 meters in 5:10.60. Ava Johnson won gold in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches and Ella Bergan was third at 4-8. The Cadet relay teams won gold in the 4x100 (52.25), the 4x200 (1:55.02) and the sprint medley (1:58.43).
“Coach Jim Obermann and I are super proud of our girls and how they all competed,” Cadet Girls’ Coach Karen Steffen said. “It is always exciting to do well at our home co-ed meet, and last night did not disappoint.
“The whole team has been working hard at practice in preparation for each meet. They are doing the things they need to do in order to get better. We need to continue working hard and staying focused each day in practice," Steffen said.
Boys' results
In the boys’ meet, Maurice Powell won gold in the 100 (11.43) and the 200 (23.15). Nathan Ahern took third in the 800 (2:03.93) and the 1600 (4:59.99).
Dominic Bigalk was third in the 3200 (11:32.45). Cody Fett was first in the shot put at 44-5.75 and placed third in the discus (125-2.25). Crestwood’s 4x100 relay team won gold in 45.51. The sprint medley team was second in 1:38.62.
