Crestwood girls' wrestling competes hard at State Tourney

CORALVILLE - History was made on Feb. 2-3 in Coralville as more than 400 Iowa High School girls competed in the first sanctioned Iowa Girls’ State Wrestling Tournament.
Four Crestwood girls (Odessa Nibbelink, 120 pounds; Chyann Bullerman-Yu, 125; Tierney Perkins, 130; and Saydey Scholbrock, 155) wrestled hard in this historic event. Unfortunately for the Cadets, none of them finished in the top eight individually, despite the fact they all gave strong efforts.
At 120 pounds, Nibbelink lost a 13-7 decision in round one to Emily Lundvall of Glenwood. In the first round consolation match, Nibbelink lost a 9-0 major decision to Susan Elderbaum of Council Bluffs Lewis Central.
Competing at 125, Bullerman-Yu won by fall over Ali Wood of Grinnell in round one. In the second round, Simone Standifer of Des Moines Public Schools won a 3-1 overtime decision over Bullman-Yu. In the consolation round, Lea Gute of Missouri Valley won a 9-4 decision over Bullerman-Yu.
At 130, Perkins won by fall over Becca Brown of Fort Dodge in the first round. In round two, Perkins lost a 3-1 decision to Lily Hans of Ankeny. In the consolation round, Kaly Thomas of Clear Creek-Amana won a 7-0 decision over Perkins.
Wrestling at 155, Scholbrock won by fall over Dana Swedensky of Council Bluffs Lewis Central in the first round. In round two, No. 1-ranked Skylar Slade of Southeast Polk won by fall over Scholbrock. In the first consolation round match, Scholbrock won by fall over Kasee Huss of MOC-Floyd Valley. In the second round consolation match, Teegan Sulentich of Washington won by fall over Scholbrock.
