Crestwood volleyball team beats Oelwein, wins two at NEIC Tourney

CRESCO - A great team effort helped the Crestwood volleyball team earn a thrilling 3-2 win over Oelwein on the road on Oct. 10 (25-21, 25-20, 16-25, 23-25, 15-11).
Crestwood Head Coach Robin Gossman said solid team helped the Cadets.
“The real key to the win was defense, both at the net and on the floor,” Gossman said. “The girls are understanding that defense creates offense. Take care of defense first and offense follows. They also played with real heart. When the going got tough,  they responded perfectly. I continue to stress that big matches are won on determination.
“If you can stay focused and not worry about another team’s big hit or big block or ace serve, you will be OK. Last night and Monday (Oct. 9 against Saint Ansgar), they displayed that kind of focus. Both matches were similar, only last night I got to see a real test going into the fifth set.
“Everyone on the roster played and did what they needed to do while in the match and on the bench. Team excitement is starting to get where we need it,” Gossman noted.
Shannon Pisney led Crestwood with 24 kills, had 11 digs, two blocks, completed 17 of 19 serves and had two aces. Kayla Lentz was 20 of 23 serving, had three aces and 30 digs. Emma Mannery had 26 assists, 11 digs and completed 16 of 16 serves.
