Crestwood wrestlers nab second at sectionals, qualify eight for districts

DECORAH - The Crestwood wrestling team gave an outstanding performance Saturday at the Class 2A Section 10 Wrestling Tournament at Luther College in Decorah as the Cadets placed second as a team with 245.5 points and advanced eight individual wrestlers to the Class 2A District Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 10 at noon in Indepdendence.

By placing second at sectionals as a team, the Cadets qualified for the Class 2A Region Dual Team Tournament, which will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. at West Delaware High School in Manchester. The No. 21 Cadets will face No. 16 Dubuque Wahlert in one dual while No. 3 West Delaware will battle No. 32 Union in the other dual. The winner of each dual will face each other in the final dual of the night. The winner of this dual will advance to the Class 2A State Dual Team Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines on Feb. 14.

Competing at the Sectional Tournament on Feb. 3, the Cadets crowned five champions and had three second place finishers. The champions included: Kaden Anderlik (120), Ryan Steffen (145), Colter Bye (160), Judd Grover (182) and Jacob Knutson (285). The second place finishers included: Nathaniel Bigalk (106), Chris Guest (152) and Stone Peckham (220). Complete results from the sectional tournament will be in the Feb. 7 Times Plain Dealer.
