Crestwood wrestling team nabs first at sectional tourney, nine advance to districts

CRESCO - The Class 2A No. 2 Crestwood wrestling team had an outstanding day at the Sectional Tournament on Feb. 6 in Decorah. The Cadets captured first in the team standings with 242.5 points and advanced nine individuals to the district tournament scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 13 in New Hampton. By winning the sectional tourney, Crestwood will advance to the Region Dual Team Tournament at home on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. Crestwood will face the winner of the New Hampton-Turkey Valley vs. Algona dual on Feb. 9. The winner of that dual will advance to the State Dual Team Tournament on Feb. 17 in Des Moines. The nine Cadets who advanced to districts include: Nathaniel Bigalk, first place, 106 pounds; Anders Kittelson, first, 113; Carter Fousek, first, 126; Cole Butikofer, first, 132; Chase Thomas, first, 138; Clay Schemmel, second, 152; Hunter Bye, 160, first; Landen Schemmel, second, 195; and Treyton Burnikel, first, 220. Burnikel's win in the finals at sectionals was his 100th career win at Crestwood. Statistics will be in the Wednesday, Feb. 10 issue of the Times Plain Dealer.
