Crestwood wrestling team wins MFL Tourney, crown eight champions

MONONA - Eight Crestwood wrestlers grabbed first place at the MFL-Mar-Mac Tournament on Jan. 16 to help the No. 3 Cadets win the team title easily with 285 points. MFL-Mar-Mac took second place with 193 points.
The Cadets who won individual titles included: Nathaniel Bigalk, 106; Anders Kittelson, 113; Carter Fousek, 126; Cole Butikofer, 132; Chase Thomas, 138; Clay Schemmel, 152; Landen Schemmel, 182; and Treyton Burnikel, 220. Kittelson was also named Most Valuable Wrestler of the tournament.
Five Cadets are currently ranked in the top 10 including: Bigalk (No. 3), Kittelson (No. 9), Fousek (No. 1), Thomas (No. 5) and Burnikel (No. 4).
“After wrestling well at the Flanagan Tournament (on Jan. 9), we followed that up with a good tournament at MFL,” Cadet Coach Keith Slifka said. “I was really happy with the way all our guys wrestled. Of our 14 wrestlers, 13 placed third or higher."
