No. 1 Crestwood girls thrash South Tama at State, advance to semis against North Polk

DES MOINES - One win down and two more to go!

Facing South Tama in the first round of the Class 3A State Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 27, in Des Moines, the No. 1 Crestwood girls' basketball team (24-0) trounced the Trojans, 66-28, to advance to the semifinals against North Polk (22-3) on Thursday, March 1 at 5 p.m. The semifinal winner will play in the championship game on March 3 at 3 p.m. against either Clear Lake (22-2), Monticello (19-5), Sioux Center (22-2) or Red Oak (21-2).

The Cadets raced to a 14-3 lead after one period against South Tama and pushed their lead to 40-12 at halftime. Crestwood connected on 14 of 28 field goals, including two three-pointers in the first half. South Tama made only three of 20 field goals in the first half. Sharon Goodman led Crestwood with 20 points, and Shannon Pisney tossed in 19 points. Complete Cadet statistics will be in the March 7 Times Plain Dealer.
