Trojan squads compete hard at Sumner-Fredericksburg meet

SUMNER - Competing in their first outdoor meet at Sumner-Fredericksburg on March 28 with temperatures in the low 30s, the Turkey Valley girls’ team placed sixth overall with 32 points while the boys’ squad took seventh with 34 points.
Waukon earned a sweep in the team standings by placing first in both the girls’ and boys’ meets, with 99 and 80 points respectively. The meet was halted after the 4x200 meter relay because of the cold.
In the girls’ meet, TV’s Jacqlyn Schmitt finished second in the discus with a throw of 83 free, 2.5 inches. Morgan Wenthold was third in the long jump at 14-6.25. The Trojans’ distance medley team of Olivia Snyder, Kinsey Reicks, Addison Steinlage and Wenthold placed third in 4:40.20.
In the boys’ meet, Turkey Valley’s 800 sprint medley team of Troy Schmitt, Burke Busta, Noah Hanson and Ryan Franzen nabbed gold in 1:40.87. The distance medley team of Burke Busta, Chase Hayek, Hanson and John Forbes took first in 3:58.69.
